Press Release
(02-03-15) – Demand for hard cider is growing nationally, and according to one local company, Liberty Ciderworks, Spokane is matching that trend.
Liberty’s offerings have earned it national awards and fans statewide. Now, just nine months after opening, owners Rick Hastings and Austin Dickey have hired their first full-time employee to help extend sales and meet demand.
The firm has selected Kaci Pratt, a longtime Spokane resident and 20-year veteran of the restaurant industry as its new Sales Manager. “We’re very, very excited to have Kaci as part of our company,” said Austin Dickey, owner and business manager. “She’s been a fan of our products since we began, and we’re confident her experience and genuine enthusiasm will make her an outstanding part of our team.”
Hard cider is the fastest-growing segment in today’s beverage industry, with sales over the past few years rising at a 70% annual pace. Those figures are largely associated with huge national brands such as Angry Orchard, but regional micro-scale cideries seem to be growing nearly as fast. For instance, membership in the Northwest Cider Association, an industry group promoting small-scale cideries across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia, has gone from 18 to 46 cideries in the last 18 months, with more in the planning stage.
Liberty Ciderworks expects to see its sales more than double this year, going from 5,000 liters sold to more than 10,000. The firm’s ciders are currently sold statewide, with all production taking place in its small downtown Spokane facility.
