Press Release
SEATTLE (June 7, 2016) – Pacific Northwest Cider Awards (PNWCA) is pleased to announce tickets are available for the third annual festival! Taking place June 24 & 25, PNWCA is comprised of a private judging competition on Friday, followed by a one-day festival at The Woods tasting room in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood on Saturday, June 25. With more than 180 cider entries from 44 cideries, this is the largest capacity this event has held, continuing year over year growth. Cider, the fastest growing beverage during 2015, has become a staple product emerging from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia, all with unique approaches to the craft.
Founded in 2013, PNWCA raises awareness for the unique ciders being produced throughout the region while offering an easy way for the public to explore the world of cider. The private judging will take place on Friday, June 24. Comprised of 15 cider categories, each cider will be judged on attributes including clarity, aroma, mouthfeel and overall impression. Winners of the judging will be announced the morning of Saturday, June 25 at PNWCA.com and via PNWCA social media.
Open to the public, a one-day festival will be held Saturday, June 25 at Seattle Cider Company’s tasting room, The Woods, in SoDo (4660 Ohio Ave S). This outdoor festival will feature an estimated 35+ ciders on tap, giving cider lovers the chance to enjoy specialty and limited edition ciders. Each ticket purchased will be accompanied by a voting slip, allowing for one vote per purchase. The cider with the most votes at the end of the festival will be awarded the People’s Choice Award, to be announced Monday, June 27 via PNWCA.com and PNWCA social media.
The Woods will be open Saturday, June 25 from 12-7pm for the event, with food, including gluten-free options available from Bread & Circuses, located within their tasting room. Tickets are now available online through Brown Paper Tickets for $20, or $25 at the door. Each ticket receives tokens for eight 4-ounce pours, with additional tokens available for purchase, as well as a PNWCA tasting glass. Representatives from participating cideries will be present throughout the event to share their ciders and information about their cideries. Some ciders to be poured include Portland Cider’s StrawPerry, from British Columbia, Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse’s Prohibition, Wandering Aengus’ Bittersweet and Seattle Cider Company’s Gravenstein Rosé.
