BOTHELL, Wash. – Beardslee Public House will kick off Cider Week on September 6th with the exclusive debut of Barrel Roll, a handcrafted and barrel aged organic cider made by Chatter Creek Winery. The hard cider spent four months in John Howie’s own bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace Distillery, emerging with balanced hints of oak, crisp apple and a whiskey nice snap in the finish. Chatter Creek’s Barrel Roll Cider will be available in limited quantities on draft for $7.50 (13-ounce tulip) beginning today or by the bottle for $14.00 (16.9 ounces) starting this weekend at Beardslee Public House.
Barrel Roll is the passion project of Gordon Rawson, founder of Chatter Creek Winery, whose first wine was made 34 years ago at home using fresh apple juice from the grocery store. He eventually moved on to grapes and parlayed his enthusiasm for the craft into a distinguished career as a professional winemaker, making sparkling and still wines. At Chatter Creek, Rawson became renown for handcrafted varietal wines that emphasize the diverse terroir of Washington State, but he continued to tinker with various types of fruit wines and mead over the years. The idea of working with apples again remained on a ‘That Would Be Fun’ list, but didn’t come to fruition until a recent whim and conversation with Chef John Howie, who offered his whiskey barrels for the hard cider project.
