Hood River, OR - June, 2019 Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom is releasing the newest addition to our seasonal cider lineup. With enthusiasm, we experiment with all things apples and pears in our hard working cidery. First cultivated in Arkansas around 1840, the Arkansas Black apple is known for its dark burgundy rind, light tartness, and sweet juiciness, while holding honey and vanilla flavors. Now grown in the Hood River Valley, this apple still holds much of the same characteristics, making it a wonderful apple for cider. It’s clean, crisp, and holds marvelously delicate flavors and aromas within this big and juicy apple. As all of our apple ciders, this one is bone dry, but there is a slight perceived sweetness on the back end. Savory and earthen, the delicate honey and vanilla come through on the retro-hale. It’s one of our favorites so far. Double Mountain Ciders and Perries are gluten free and available in refillable 500ML bottles and draft at our Hood River Taproom, SE Portland Taproom in the Woodstock neighborhood, and throughout the Northwest.
Arkansas Black Cider 6.7% What fun to work with single varietals of apples. Purple and black on the tree, the Arkansas Black has been grown since the 1800’s. This old-world fruit is renowned for its luscious cider. Juicy red apple, raspberry, honey, and a touch of vanilla cap this delightful cider.
“After walking through local Heirloom orchards in Hood River, we began tasting dozens of old world cider apples. With great flavor and amazing tangy tartness, the Arkansas Black sang out in to our taste buds. We thought this 19th century apple was begging to become a stand alone varietal cider in the 21st”. Matt Swihart, Brewmaster.
